5 Keys to Get Started with SEO

Do you know how to exactly start with your search engine optimization? Oftentimes, webmasters are faced with problems on how to get the most desired spot in search engines: the first place. It is thus very important that you are equipped with the right tips so you can succeed in optimizing your websites.
Here are 5 keys to get started with SEO:
1. Label your images. Search engines, by nature, cannot read images, per se. That's why to have your images indexed; you need to add an Alt tag to them. Doing this will also help Internet users who only have browsers that are text only to get an idea as to what image you have attached in your website.
2. Don't abuse directories. There are different standards uphold by directories, and one of them is to limit your website submission to only once, unless it says you can resubmit after six months just in case you didn't pass their qualifications. Otherwise, you will be viewed as a spammer.
3. Add a .robots text file. It's very essential that search engines can follow all of the links in your pages. That's why you have to include a .robots text file into your web pages. You can also instruct search engine spiders as to what pages you want to get indexed in search engines.
4. Follow the rules. If you like to get indexed in search engines, you have to stick to the rules provided by Google, MSN, and Yahoo, among others. One of these is to never cheat, which means you shouldn't resort to all black hat techniques.
5. Monitor your performance in search engines. There are new tricks being introduced almost every day when it comes to SEO. Hence, you should monitor your rankings and implement the right ones to see if there's any improvement.
